Power

What resonates for you when you encounter the word Power? Perhaps the image of a world leader or someone who has control over others?  Or maybe a physical quality of strength, and the ability to exert mind over matter in ways recorded in the Guinness World Book of Records?

All of those associations have some earthly good. Orderly structure by leaders at the world, nation, and local levels serve to provide necessary guardrails for the world’s 8 billion people to coexist.  And testing our own unique physical limitations can be a motivating force in our day to day search for accomplishment.

But at what point does Power at any level lead to excessive ego attachment, and next to acting out dark shadow expressions of manipulation, injustice, and  inequality?  And for our own sense of who we are, do physical desires for strength, image, feats, and attraction by others lead to an imbalance of connection to our Divine nature vs. what we see projected in the mirror?

None of us, other than the original, are Mother Teresa.  But we do have the Power to bring forth Mother Teresa’s qualities that DO exist within each of us.  Striving for higher levels of compassion, humility, authenticity, caring, peace, and love expressed to all may not receive mention in the record books, but it will move us closer to John Lennon’s vision in his song “Imagine”.

What connection to the word Power will you exercise in the days ahead?  John Legend’s song “If You’re Out There” challenges us all to not look for leaders, but to BE the leaders.  Imagine the change your Power can bring to the future of our world’s children and grandchildren.
